PBM HOLDS A COLOURFUL COMPANY RETREAT IN MANGOCHI- LAKE MALAWI

On Thursday 21st September to 24th September 2023, PBM staff and management spent their time on the shores of Lake Malawi at Nkhudzi Beach Lodge in Mangochi District. This event was organized by the management as one way of re-strategizing, discussing annual projects and finance reports, development of policies in different departments, launching a five times growth strategy and team building and cohesion.

The whole event started with welcoming remarks from the Managing Director Dr. Peter Matipwiri followed by the Finance and Administration Director Mrs. Beatrice Matipwiri. These opening remarks were then followed by Projects and Finance Meeting whereby the Finance department gave out an overview of how the past year has been in terms of projects carried out and the finances realized. According to the report that was presented, it was evident that the company is on the right track and the past financial year was a success. After the report was presented, different departments took turns as they presented new proposed policies within their departments. Some of the policies that were presented include: procurement policy, performance policy, labor management policy, ESHS policy, five times growth policy and launching of new website. The ceremony ended on a high note with a presentation by Mr. Mavuto Mizwa (a Social and Behavioral Change Communication Specialist) who gave out a motivational speech titled “Balancing work and family”.   

After working for two days (from Thursday 21st September to Friday 22nd September), on Saturday 23rd September, members of staff took recreational approach as they had fan and played different group games. Some of the games that were held at this day include: Tug of War, Boat Ridding Swimming and many other games. On this day members of staff had memorable time as they had fan and eventually contributing to team building and cohesion. At the peak of the events was a time together as staff had a dinner together at Rosalyn Beach Lodge.

Starting a new week (after the retreat), staff had a refreshed and new mindset as they look forward towards a new financial year and next decade of success and exploits. Company retreats is one way of team building and increasing a group cohesion and tolerance.
